An hour a day paint and any other business

Now that the marking of group project scripts for the 1101E babies are over, I can finally get back into the flow of things. Will want to work on my thesis, and read a little. Bought a book called A History of Political Thought at Borders the other day, and will be reading through it soon.

Also, I’m planning to enforce upon myself an ‘hour per day painting’ rule. Gotta finish painting the Hordes minis, and if I don’t do it soon, Stella and I will never get down to playing it. So starting tomorrow, I will dedicate one hour (and one hour only) to painting, and I hope that I’ll get something done in due time.

Baby Kade

Painted the Baby Kade miniature from the Wyrd Miniatures line. Thought it would be great to paint up a creepy mini that I would not be using for gaming purposes. One of the better jobs that I’ve managed to churn out in a short period of time.

40k Eldar Dire Avengers

Took some time off to finally assemble some of my Eldar figures. Tried to position my Exarch in the coolest pose possible. Some sort of pointing gesture to his followers. I had several options for his weapons, but I settled on a spear, as it basically just looks cooler. heh.

Test paintjob of one of the unit figures. What do you think? I left out the arms as it was easier to paint it separate from the body.

of fish and other creatures

Today was the day we spent with many creatures. First was the painting session where we meticulously put on the clothing, fur and colour to the Hordes of animals that have been living in my cupboard in their black and white world since forever (I love this pic).

the next encounter with animals included me wrestling with a swordfish collar, Stella with her own fair share of dead fish, and a huge plate of squid to be overcome by the both of us.

Next up, we headed to Canele for more monster hunting. There we saw the infamous Sugar Brothers, and The Purple Blob. We fought to attack the brothers first, but kinda subcumbed to The Blob. Tired cutting him down to size but failed to eliminate him at the end of the day.

Last but not least, the final two creatures of the night.

The ghost with the glowing face, elbower of babies’ heads:

And the girl who had too many nightmares and turned into a nightmare:
A great night of monster hunting and adventure!

Hordes – Gorax

Completed Stella’s Gorax today. Just some minor details like the nails and the base and everything is good to go. Am really pleased at how it turned out, although the pictures doesn’t do it much justice. Ah well.

June

Man, it’s hard coming up with blogpost titles. I meant to write a little bit about what’s going on, so here it is :

Been painting quite a bit lately. Things are turning out fine, and I’ll post pictures once they are done. Most of the minis are in the ‘halfway phase’ so they’re not ready to see the light just yet. Bought some flow extender from Art Friend yesterday, and tried it out on one of the models. The effect was good, and would be a great addition to my painting repertoire.

Finally got down to arranging for a CoC game. Gonna be a 3, or maybe 2 person game, but it’ll be fun nonetheless. I’ve been telling Stella how I hope for her to experience more gaming during the holidays, so here is the chance for that.

Working a bit on the thesis too, but things are slow. Hopefully I’ll have more things to write about soon. Will keep working on it.

And finally, our steak lunch today! Nothing beats hanging out, having a nice warm steak, and just watching a movie. Now that’s what I call a great day.

painting again

Feels good to be painting again. Hope to complete more models in the upcoming weeks, and get in a game or two with Stella on Friday.

Hordes WIP – Striders and pureblood warpwolf

Finally got down to do some painting the previous night. I started on the unit of striders that have been sitting on my table collecting dust since forever, while Stella started on her Pureblood Warpwolf. Still WIP, but its some good progress we’re making towards our goal of having a fully painted army by summer.

Lone Strider with base coats done. This will form the shadow layer when the lighter coats go over the skin and the cloak :

Unit of Striders, the front guy with the sword having his skin tone completed, the rest just base coated.
Stella hit theĀ armorĀ of the Warpwolf with bronze, and the recesses with a yellowish green to go with the whole colour scheme of her Circle army. Flesh is grey for now, but will be lightened to a near white as time goes by. One of the spikes have fallen off during handling, but will be glued back very soon.

Until next time. Watch this space.

Musings in the rain

The rain tonight made it a lot more inviting to head down for a jog. Been trying to keep up with the exercise regieme so that I can finally get healthy again and lose a couple of inches. I think it would also prepare me for the physical strain that I will have to undergo getting around Vietnam in May.

So the next week will be the final one for class, and we’ve got 3 deadlines to meet. Bao’s essay, Kim’s squib thing, and a presentation on the final day. Once all that is over, it’ll just be the usual studying for exams and taking the exams. I think it’s reached a point where I’ve done too many exams to be nervous about it. Who knows? this might even be my last exam ever.

On a more geeky note, I’ve been thinking of miniatures gaming non stop. It’s almost become a daily obsession and I don’t know if it will go away, or if I want it to go away. Frankly for me, it’s more about painting than gaming, although I’m sure I’ll enjoy the game just as much too. While my game of choice is definitely Hordes, I do like the sight of a battalion sized army painted up, even if it stays on the shelf. Oh well. Constantly dreaming of painting a Lizardmen and an Eldar army.

of dogs and other manner of creatures

Some of the miniature catalogs that I ordered over at Malestorm arrived today. Together with one of the random Lizardmen figures that I ordered, they mistakenly gave me an extra figure by mistake. Seems like I’m always getting lucky goodies in my shipment here and there nowadays.

Oh and some updates : I repainted the Samael model to a darker black colour. Think it looks ‘darker’ that way.
Watched Slumdog Millionaire today with Stella and Stacey. Pretty good show, and I really liked the cinematography and storytelling. Don’t know if it deserved to win the Oscars or not though. I’m not really interested in that anyway, and it’s a good movie as any other in my book. Am glad that Stella is recovering well, too. The swelling seems to have almost gone already, so I’m happy.

Signing off with my very bored dog lazing on my room floor as I packed my room today.
