Just completed the Dark Ages game. It was pretty decent, although I often feel bad for letting Stella have to sit through my bad game mastering =( Hope I won’t bore the players next time.

You know that I’m stressed out at school when all I think and write about is about gaming. Thinking of running a Cthulhu game soon, and perhaps a dnd4e on the go as well. Been looking out at the 4e stuff, and the products that Wizards is putting out has been really promising, from a non-hardcore dnd player’s point of view (heck I’ve never even run a game before, cept for AD&D more than 10 years ago). Think it would suit Stella and some of my other friends pretty well for a night of monster bashing.
Warhammer – Lizardmen

When I was still in secondary school, my brother and I used to frequent Serene Centre to buy their comics and weird magazines once in a while. It was there that I bought my first roleplaying game, and it was also there that I was introduced to the world of miniatures wargaming. During those days, we didn’t have much money, so the only thing that we could afford during that time was a warhammer paint set, which included 5 bottles of paint, and 5 models on which you could try painting. Those models were from the Lizardmen army, and those were the very first models which I ever painted.
Fast forward more than 10 years, and here I am, quite a gamer of sorts. I’m playing a wonderful miniatures game called Hordes with the girlfriend, and we both have great armies waiting to be painted and brought to the battlefield. Recently, I was made aware that there was a new Lizardmen army being released for the Warhammer game, and I was naturally intrigued. After looking at the models, something makes me want to get some models and paint up an army, even though I might never even field them in battle.
Something about Lizardmen as a race intrigues me. Could it be the link to the Great Old Ones in Lovecraftian lore? Or perhaps I like the idea of ancient Mayan-like reptilian creatures defending their last homeland from the marauding hordes of humans who want to grab their gold aka El Dorado style? Or perhaps it’s a part of me missing the time where we were young and still full of wonder, where we were allowed to indulge in dreams and fantasies and actually keep them.
In any case, I don’t think I’ll ever get down to actually purchasing and painting an army (I still have my Hordes stuff to paint), but the whole point of this was an exercise in reminising about how I came to be a gamer.
I finally roleplayed with my girlfriend for the first time. It was a wonderful experience =D
sending my games up to heaven

It felt almost symbolic when I decided that it has come to a point that I would not be able to run any roleplaying games in the near future and started packing all my older games into a box. The act of placing that box high up in my cupboard in a place where I would not access them till I really needed to felt as if I was sending my games ‘up to heaven’, and rightfully so, as they have served me well during my many gaming sessions with the guys, who are now mostly spread across the world at this point, or just too busy to game.
I kept the Changeling and CoC book on my shelf as I might run something for Stella and friends if/when the opportunity arises. But right now, we’re mostly occupied with Hordes, cards and probably a bit of DDM. All in all, the verdict still stands that my other RPGs will have to be put away to make way for my growing book collection.
It has always been at the back of my mind that one day I might have to put aside my hobby for other passions/responsibilities, but putting them away because of a lack of a gaming group and regular gaming sessions sure wasn’t something that I really expected.
In a way, I really miss those times.
Wishing that work will get done by itself somehow.
On a random note, I really would like to run a game or paint miniatures. Anyone out there interested in roleplaying games?
